The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to communities and businesses across the world. In India, nationwide lockdown was declared for 21 days effective March 25, 2020 which put the entire nation at a standstill and caught citizens by surprise. There was uncertainty everywhere and many people were clueless as to how to combat this crisis. Social distancing, stay safe, stay home, washing hands, sanitization etc. became the survival mantras.

At Veraval, our employees joined forces to address the situation through various initiatives and by extending support to local government agencies. Below are some of the activities undertaken to support the communities across the villages around Veraval, Gujarat.

  • Supply of disinfectant (Sodium Hypochlorite) – More than 10,500 litres of Sodium Hypochlorite was distributed to municipalities around Veraval, Gujarat for disinfection and sanitization of nearby localities. Awareness program was also conducted for staff members of municipalities on safe use of Sodium Hypochlorite.
  • In-house manufacturing and distribution of Sanitizers - With Sanitizers in short supply, the R&D employees of VFY plant, Veraval rose to the occasion and followed WHO guidelines to manufacture hand sanitizers within the plant. Sanitizers were distributed to hospitals, health centres, police administration, and government offices near Veraval, Gujarat.
  • Distribution of face masks – Women trained in sewing through our CSR initiatives joined hands and worked round the clock in making face masks. More than 1,775 masks have been made and distributed in the locality till date.
  • Providing free food to people in need: The employees collaborated with the local government authorities to reach out and provide free food to the poor and needy.
  • Aditya Birla Hospital, Veraval equipped for COVID-19 patient treatment

At Kalyan, Maharashtra, created awareness through persistent communication in and around the manufacturing premises ensuring safety to a large extent at one of the worst hit areas in the country. Also provided food packets (1400 No.) to needy in nearby locality/ villages around Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra
